What the heck is mom coaching and how is it different from therapy?
Coaching is a goal oriented approach for moms who don’t need therapy. Many of my coaching clients are functioning pretty well overall, but they want a little boost to help with parenting, redefining their identity outside of motherhood, and feeling like themselves again. Common things we talk about are investing in ourselves, emotional regulation, tantrums, resentment, mom rage, friendships and relationships as moms, and more.
Therapy is different. My therapy clients may be struggling to connect with their babies, experiencing sadness more often than not, or needing additional support to cope with frequent and even overwhelming anxiety. If I ever think you need more than coaching, I will always talk to you about it and provide you with a referral to a local therapist in your area.
Can I see you for coaching if I’m already working with another therapist?
Yes! Through coaching we can take an action-oriented approach to work towards specific goals related to motherhood. Coaching can be a nice compliment to therapy services as you may be focused on other areas of your life and your mental health in therapy. I’d encourage us to talk about it and see how we can collaborate with your therapist as appropriate or work independently towards enhancing your motherhood journey.
How soon will I see results?
Many clients report feeling lighter, validated, and having increased clarity after just one session. True progress will be a journey, but with each session we’ll develop tangible tools you can implement right away.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients work with me for 4-6 sessions, so we get right to business to maximize your time and work towards results. The specific reasons you are seeking coaching, or challenges that come up along the way, may influence the length of time you participate in coaching.
Is online coaching effective?
Absolutely! Online coaching is just, if not more effective, as in-person services because we are more comfortable at home and are able to let our guard down, be raw and real, and authentically work towards progress. Plus, online coaching gives us the freedom to work together across the U.S. as well as internationally. We can work around naptimes, all from the comfort of your laptop and your favorite yoga pants.
